A Truth to Believe
What does it mean that the Bible is Living and Active?
God’s Word is unlike any other book—it is the living and authoritative voice of God himself, carried along by the Spirit, and working with power in every generation. The Bible is not merely words on a page; it is the almighty God speaking into our lives.
When heard and understood rightly, Scripture confronts and reads us, exposing our unbelief and disobedience while calling us to believe and live in the right way. It teaches, convicts, comforts, and transforms, forcing us to choose either to believe and obey or to turn away in disobedience.
God’s word is alive and effective. It always accomplishes God’s purposes and never fails to have the effect God designs. God, by his Spirit, makes his written Word a present and powerful instrument to give life, convict hearts, and shape his people to be more like him.
"Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." ... For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:7, 12
Something about Living
There is a lot of noise within pop Christianity and even within local churches today. So much of it can be distracting from the beauty of Christ and God's glory.
It is worth reminding ourselves that Christianity = constantly reorienting our lives around Jesus Christ for the glory of God.
A Quote
Do you ever feel like evil and wickedness are winning?
John Flavel encourages us, "God has the reins in his hand. Wicked men are sometimes like mad horses, they would stamp the people of God under their feet, but that the bridle of providence is in their mouths. A lion at liberty is terrible to meet, but who is afraid of a lion in the keeper's hand."
Don't be deceived. God has Satan and evil on a leash.
