A Truth to Believe

Why are there Sixty-six Books in the Bible?

There are 66 books in the Bible because God ordained 39 books to be in the Old Testament and 27 books to be in the New Testament. It was God who planned and inspired only these 66 books to make up his written Word. God perfectly and sufficiently communicated himself through these writings so that nothing more needs to be added. The Bible is perfectly complete.

We believe these 39 books of the Old Testament are God’s Word because Jesus confirmed they were Scripture. We believe these 27 books of the New Testament are God’s Word because Jesus commissioned his apostles to write and affirm them as Scripture.

The 66 books of the Bible have been almost universally recognized as Christian Scripture––God’s inspired and authoritative Word–– throughout church history. In the end, people did not make books Scripture, they recognized what books God ordained to be Scripture.

For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21).

Something about Living

Old age is not equivalent with ceasing to bear fruit on this earth. Even in the later years, press onward to be ever full of God and more impactful than the year before.

The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him (Psalm 92:12-15).

A Quote

Do you want to know God? Then keep a steady gaze at his Son, Jesus Christ.

Thomas Charles once wrote, "Others have given the world a revelation from God, but none revealeth the Father but the Son. In him we see the Father's excellence and glory fully expressed. 'He that halth seen me,' saith Christ, 'hath seen the Father.' The attributes and properties of the divine nature are made fully known to us in the Son; and in seeing his glory we see the glory of the whole Trinity."

Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God. Fix the eyes of your heart upon him.
