A Truth to Believe
What does it mean that God is Happy?
The God of heaven and earth is a happy God. Perfectly satisfied and overflowing in infinite delight within himself, God exists in inexhaustible joy. God's happiness is not dependent upon external circumstances, creation, or any creature. He did not create, nor does he rule out of loneliness, frustration, deficiency, or need. God’s fullness of joy flows from his eternal delight and perfect satisfaction in the harmony and glory of his own divine being.
God's happiness is complete apart from creation and even his works. Creation was never necessary to fulfill or complete God. Instead, the world exists as an overflow of God's joy, goodness, and desire to share his glory. Although he takes pleasure in humanity, his creation, and his works, what makes God happiest is himself. Nothing can diminish or threaten this divine happiness.
The happiness God has in himself reflects the beauty and splendor of who he is. From all eternity, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have existed in perfect love, fellowship, and delight. God's happiness in himself is also the foundation of his gracious work of salvation. The blessed God joyfully saves sinners through Jesus Christ and brings them into the fullness of joy found in him alone.
"... in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed (happy) God with which I have been entrusted." 1 Timothy 1:11
Something about Living
How would your daily life change if you began each day firmly rooted in your joy and purpose in Christ?
Make it your daily business to satisfy and secure your heart in Jesus, because it will not happen by accident.
A Quote
"The foundation of true holiness and true Christian worship is the doctrine of the gospel, what we are to believe. So when Christian doctrine is neglected, forsaken, or corrupted, true holiness and worship will also be neglected, forsaken, and corrupted."
John Owen
