A Truth to Believe

What does it mean that God is Eternal?

God is Eternal. He had no beginning, he will have no end, and he exists beyond time itself. God existed before time began and will forever exist as the only sovereign and wise king of this universe. God is separate from time as its creator and Lord. He exists above time, perfectly comprehends past, present, and future simultaneously, but may freely enter into time to accomplish his purposes.

While we humans are bound to the present, God's eternality means he transcends time. Time is one of his creations and therefore serves his plans and purposes. God does not change with the passing of time, as we do, and time has no limit upon him or his will.

Eternal time is not a box that contains God, as if it were something greater than God that he exists within. Instead, eternity finds its meaning in relation to God. God is the very substance of what eternity means, and time, as his creation, exists under his authority. As the eternal God, our King exists forever, and in Jesus Christ, he freely offers us an eternal existence with him.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2)

Something about Living

Universal spoiler: no matter how bad it gets here and now, Jesus and his people win. A day is coming when every knee will bow to Christ, and every tongue will confess that he is Lord. Jesus cannot lose; sin, Satan, and death cannot win. Whose side are you on?

A Quote

“In this evil world you may not perhaps feel all the sensible comfort you could desire. But remember, you cannot have two heavens. Perfect happiness is yet to come. The devil is not yet bound. There is a good time coming for all who feel their sins and come to Christ, and commit their thirsting souls to his keeping. When he comes again they will be completely satisfied. They will remember all the way by which they were led, and see the need-be of everything that befell them…. Here, in this world, our sense of rest in Christ at best is feeble and partial; we hardly seem at times to taste fully the living water."
