A Truth to Believe
How Can We Summarize the Minor Prophets of the OT - Part 2?
The Minor Prophets do not advance the storyline of the Old Testament. These Prophets, who are minor only because their books are shorter, were messengers of God. These twelve books were once united in a single volume, the Book of the Twelve, and together they declare Israel’s spiritual unfaithfulness, God’s judgment, and future restoration through God’s Promised One.
Here is a way we could summarize the second half of them:
Nahum is a collection of sermons declaring God’s judgment against wicked Assyria.
Habakkuk is a message of hope for how the righteous can live by faith while trusting that God will punish wickedness.
Zephaniah is a collection of sermons summoning God’s people to pursue him and beware of the coming day of the Lord, which will include God’s judgment and salvation.
Haggai is a collection of sermons calling those who are back in the promised land to prioritize rebuild God’s house while assuring them that God will restore his presence and blessings.
Zechariah calls God’s people to faithfulness as they trust in his future plan to bring his messianic kingdom.
Malachi is a series of sermons calling apathetic, half-hearted Israel to renew a faithful and right following of God.
Something about Living
Sometimes instead of starting something new you just need to redo how you are doing what you are already doing.
A Quote
"But in everything and at all times, remember to keep your eye steady on Christ's ability and all-sufficiency, continually engaged to guide you strength for every work. Without continual dependence upon him, your strength for everything is perfect weakness; and the world, the flesh, and the devil with laugh at the puny arm lifted up against them. Be first strong in the Lord; then resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
Thomas Charles - Spiritual Counsels
