A Truth to Believe

How Can We Summarize the Minor Prophets of the OT - Part 1?

The Minor Prophets do not advance the storyline of the Old Testament. These Prophets, who are minor only because their books are shorter, were messengers of God. These twelve books were once united in a single volume, the Book of the Twelve, and together they declare Israel’s spiritual unfaithfulness, God’s judgment, and future restoration through God’s Promised One.

Here is a way we could summarize the first half of them:

Hosea is a collection of stories revealing Israel’s unfaithfulness and God’s inexhaustible redeeming love.

Joel is a sermon about God’s judgement on the day of the Lord and his promise to pour out his Spirit.

Amos is a collection of sermons declaring God’s justice and calling for true worship that overflows in love towards others.

Obadiah is a sermon revealing humanity’s pride and downfall as well as the future restoration of God’s kingdom.

Jonah tells a story of God’s compassionate love toward sinful people and of a prophet who resents God because of it.

Micah declares God’s judgement against his sinful people as well as his forgiveness for those who turn from their sin.

Something about Caregiving

Caregiver, what you need most is to see and savor the Lord Jesus Christ. The more we gaze at the excellencies of Christ, the more excellent he becomes. What we need as weary-hearted, anxious-laden believers is to look again to Jesus. And when we have looked, I would have us look again and again, filling ourselves with Christ's grandeur and glory.

Go further in, let us enter deeper into Christ, and behold new treasures in him. Come Behold the height of his holiness, the depth of his power, the breadth of his love, and the glory of his essence. I dare say that yet again Christ will satisfy and prove enough.

A Quote

"You may yourself ebb and flow, rise and fall, wax and wane; but your Lord is this day as He was yesterday; and it is your comfort that your salvation is not rolled upon wheels of your own making, neither have you to do with a Christ of your own shaping."
